Yahoo News 9 Hollyoaks spoilers for next week
Next week's Hollyoaks episodes see John Paul McQueen make his return to the village, while his sister Mercedes remains a target in the fallout from her shooting.
Here's a full collection of nine storylines you can look forward to.
1. John Paul returns and faces Finn
Sally and Edward have teamed up with a joint mission to get Finn out of the village, so they contact John Paul and ask him to come back to deal with a supposed "emergency". John Paul complies, but is shocked to realise that he was lured back on false pretences and it's about Finn.
John Paul initially refuses to have anything to do with the Finn situation, but after a quick catch-up with James outside The Dog, he changes his mind and heads to see Finn at the Hutchinsons' flat. Five years on from John Paul's rape, how will he react to seeing his attacker again?
2. John Paul makes a big decision about his future
John Paul is only returning for two episodes for now, but he'll be back on a permanent basis in the New Year. The show sets up his return when he speaks to Sally about his plans for the future.
John Paul tells Sally that he has some loose ends to tie up in Singapore, but will move back to the village in 2020. James Sutton, who plays John Paul, has previously told Digital Spy that his character will be taking over as deputy headteacher of Hollyoaks High – playing a key role in next year's issue-based storyline about County Lines drug dealing.
3. Mercedes is threatened by a surprising culprit
After falsely pointing the finger at Sylver for shooting her, Mercedes has to deal with the down-side – the real shooter is still out there somewhere and could be plotting to finish off the job. (We don't think she thought this one through.)
A nervous Mercedes panics when someone delivers a mysterious threatening letter to her. When Mercedes takes a look at her young son Bobby's sketchbook later on, she realises that he was the one who sent the letter. Way to fuel those "Bobby shot Mercedes" theories, Hollyoaks.
4. Mercedes considers changing her story
Rattled over her ongoing fears – and being threatened by an 8-year-old – Mercedes starts to wonder whether it'd be easier for her to change her statement about Sylver and secure his freedom. Breda, who's still unaware of Mercy's lies, questions why she'd do that if Sylver was the one who shot her.
As Mercedes continues to have second thoughts over her cruel revenge, Breda asks her whether she could have false memories of Sylver shooting her. Mercedes denies it, swearing to Breda that she saw Sylver pull the trigger.
5. Hope for Sylver
Whatever Mercedes decides to do, Sylver may not be doomed to another long stretch behind bars after all. Seeing how low Sylver is, Grace begs Sami to do everything he can to help.
The next day, Grace and Sami visit Sylver in prison. Sami reveals that the authorities are waiting on the lab report from some blood that was left on The Loft door on the night of the shooting. Sylver is adamant that there's no way it could be his – could this be his lifeline?
6. Sid in drugs drama
Sid feels left out when Juliet manages to make amends with Brooke, Imran and Ollie. Deciding to buy drugs, Sid makes a purchase from local dealer Liam. This proves to be a big mistake when he suffers a bad turn.
Juliet helps Sid by letting him stay at her place until he recovers, but James is furious and wants him out. Never one to hold back, Juliet points out James' hypocrisy since Sid bought the drugs from Liam – his own client.
7. James has a shocking request for Liam
Liam is stunned when James approaches him and asks for the same drugs that he sold to Sid. Liam suspects that he's being set up, but James plays the sympathy card and claims that he needs the drugs to cope after the pain of losing Harry.
James is pleased when Liam takes pity on him and agrees to his request, but was Liam right to be worried about a possible ulterior motive? Either way, Romeo is very concerned about James putting their family in danger and begs his dad to forget about Liam so they can all enjoy a happy Christmas together.
8. Marnie fears for her reputation
The grand launch of Marnie's new patisserie was a disaster and she's stung when she reads the negative press coverage that has resulted from it.
Romeo comes up with a social media campaign to bring punters back through the door again. He also boosts Marnie's self-esteem by making her believe that she has inspired the whole village to speak French, even Goldie. Now this we have to see...
9. Jesse's attempts to impress backfire
Jesse is still determined to stay on the good side of mysterious newcomers Toby and Celeste. Toby tells Jesse that a well-known model friend of his could start coming to the salon.
When Toby urges Jesse to be discreet, the hapless hairdresser panics as he has already teased the news online. Could this land Jesse in Toby's bad books?
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
