Next week's Hollyoaks episodes see the drama continue for Jesse Donovan and Courtney Campbell after their wedding. It's all about to go wrong – but why?

Meanwhile, Grace Black and James Nightingale continue to clash over the recent shooting of Mercedes McQueen. Is their dark secret under threat?

Here, we're rounding up nine big storylines you can look forward to.

1. Jesse and Courtney's big wedding twist

Jesse and Courtney have tied the knot, but their happiness may be short-lived. E4 viewers have already seen Jesse rocked on his big day after discovering that Grace and James were responsible for the shooting of Mercedes.

While we can't give away the exact details of what happens next, it's bound to have a huge impact on Jesse. Courtney is confused when he makes an announcement about their future, which seems to have come completely out of the blue.

Courtney will then wake up on the morning after the wedding and discover that her new husband is nowhere to be seen. He didn't come to bed the previous night and now seems to have disappeared.

Luke Jerdy, who plays Jesse, recently told Inside Soap: "What happens next will come as a real shock to the viewers, and there's quite a poignant message attached that it's worth reminding people of."

2. Mitchell clashes with Scott

In the latest E4 episode, Mitchell pretended to be fine after discovering that Scott had started to date Azim. However, he can't keep the act up for long and things are about to turn heated.

Mitchell accuses Scott of using Azim to make him feel jealous, but Scott is angry over the accusation and is quick to argue back against his old flame. The 'Scitchell' ship seems no closer to getting back on track.

3. Mitchell tells Martine the truth

Back at home, Martine sees how heartbroken Mitchell is and tries her best to help him. Mitchell takes his anger out on his mum, but Martine persists by asking why he has been struggling so much recently.

Seizing his chance, Mitchell finally tells Martine that he's gay. Martine is supportive and tells her son that life is too short to not go for what he wants. However, Mitchell decides not to tell his grandfather Walter the truth just yet.

4. Mitchell goes on a date

Despite Mitchell's brave moment with Martine, he won't be reuniting with Scott anytime soon.

With Scott staying focused on Azim, a disappointed Mitchell heads out on a date with another guy instead – although it's fair to say that it doesn't go well.

5. Grace gives James a warning

The events of the week leave Grace worried that James will spill the beans about how they shot Mercedes, despite their previous pact of silence.

Grace is determined to keep James in line and reminds him of the need to stay quiet about what they did. Will James be prepared to listen?

6. John Paul's chemistry with James is revisited

We know from Hollyoaks' recent 2020 trailer that John Paul and James will give into temptation again, and we see the build-up next week. John Paul steps in to help Sally at the school and kicks off with a tricky student by trying to help Juliet.

Later, James arrives to take Juliet out for lunch, prompting the schoolgirl to realise that her new teacher is 'the famous John Paul'. This comment makes things awkward, but John Paul is still keen to know when he and James are going for a drink together.

7. Damon supports Maxine

After weeks of being isolated from her loved ones, Maxine recently redeemed herself by helping Sienna in her war with Warren over the twins.

Next week, Maxine's bravery seems to have paid off, as Damon offers to treat her to some lunch and put a smile back on her face again.

8. Liam targets Maxine

If things do improve for Maxine, unfortunately it may not last for long thanks to Liam and his latest scheme.

Liam breaks into Maxine's flat and realises how much she is struggling for money. He gives her a loan and immediately gets to work on thinking up a way that he can use Maxine's troubles to his own advantage.

9. Juliet makes a discovery

With Donna-Marie back in the village, tensions are running high. She clashes with Marnie over what's best for Juliet, determined to make her mark now that she's back.

Later, Donna-Marie continues to blackmail James, but Juliet walks in when the rattled lawyer is handing over an envelope of cash. Juliet questions what's going on, but will she get the answer that she's looking for?

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
