94-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Beats COVID-19 and Exits Quarantine

Jack Holzberg, a 94-year-old Holocaust survivor, recently beat COVID-19 and was released from quarantine to vigorous applause and the red-carpet treatment at CareOne at Hanover nursing home in Whippany, New Jersey, on April 28.

This video shows Holzberg exiting the facility to the cheers of staff and his family.

Watching was his granddaughter Erica Wasserman, who posted about her grandfather on Facebook and said his discharge represented “a moment of hope and light during this hard time.” Wasserman added, “As a Holocaust survivor, he personifies strength and positivity. We are beyond grateful to everyone who cared for him, and we can’t wait for the day when we can all celebrate together.”

The New York Post reported that Holzberg was diagnosed with COVID-19 in mid-April and treated at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, before he was moved to the nursing home in New Jersey to quarantine until he was healthy enough to return home. Credit: CareOne at Hanover via Storyful
