99-Year-Old British WW2 Veteran and Ex-POW Discharged After Recovering From Coronavirus

Albert Chambers, a 99-year-old veteran of World War II who survived three years as a prisoner-of-war, was discharged from hospital in Doncaster on Friday, April 10, after recovering from the coronavirus.

“There’s nothing I can say but thank you very much,” says Chambers to his nursing staff in a video released by the NHS to mark his discharge. “I appreciate every bit you’ve done for me, you couldn’t have been better.”

Stephen Gater, his grandson, told the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust: “My grandad is amazing. He’s pretty incredible. He’s not only survived the war and being in prison camp, now he’s won the battle with coronavirus.”

His nurse, Paige, said Chambers was a “wonderful patient” and described him as “pretty amazing.” Credit: RDaSH NHS via Storyful
