A19 southbound near Sunderland reopens after vehicle overturns in crash

The A19 southbound has reopened near Sunderland after an earlier collision in which one vehicle overturned.

National Highways North East reported shortly before 6.30pm on Sunday that the southbound carriageway was shut between the A690 New Herrington and the A1018/B1404 near Seaham due to a collision involving an overturned vehicle.

ChronicleLive understands there were three vehicles involved in the collision.

National Highways North East confirmed traffic was being diverted by local routes.

On its website, they posted: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.

"Further information is available from National Highways by visiting our www.trafficengland.com website and travel apps, or via our regional X feed.

"Our 24/7 contact centre team is also available to provide up to the minute information on 0300 123 5000."

The road reopened shortly before 8pm.

Northumbria Police and North East Ambulance Service have also been contacted for comment.
