A26 Tunbridge Wells roadworks to be extended as gas works continue
Roadworks on the busy A26 in Tunbridge Wells are to be extended. The works on St John's Road in Southborough by SGN will continue and three-way traffic lights are in place.
Kent Highways warned drivers to "expect delays" in the area until the end of the works to the gas main, expected now to be at 6pm on October 28. The temporary traffic lights are near the A26 junction with Hythe Close.
One driver who uses the route said there had been "unbelievable traffic congestion". A spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN said: “We’re continuing emergency repairs to our gas network in the A26 London Road, Southborough.

“Three-way temporary lights are in place in the A26 London Road, at the junction of Hythe Close, for everyone’s safety. Our teams are manually controlling the traffic lights from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, to minimise disruption as much as possible.
“We’re also working around the clock to ensure we can repair our network as quickly and safely as possible. It’s still too early to say at this stage how long repairs will take to complete.”
Drivers had already shared their frustration at earlier works on the A26 in Southborough. There had been a lane closure on the northbound carriageway approaching the busy Speldhurst Road junction while SGN worked.
Speldhurst Road was closed to traffic at the junction with St John's Road from October 3 for emergency gas escape works. It reopened, as timetabled, on October 10.
This map below from Kent Highways shows the location of the works which will continue until nearly the end of the month.
