The A30 in Cornwall is set to close over seven nights this week in preparation for the opening of the new dual carriageway. It comes as National Highways says the £330 million project is on track with the opening planned for the middle of this month.

This week, the A30 between Chiverton and Mitchell - more than 11 miles - will be closed overnight for four nights, from today (Monday, June 3) to Thursday (June 6). The closure will be in place between 8pm and 6am each day.

A diversion route will be in place between the A3076 from Mitchell towards Quintrell Downs and then the A3075 down to the Chiverton Cross interchange.

There will then be a full weekend closure of the A30 between Chiverton and Summercourt from 9pm on Friday (June 7) to 6am on Monday (June 10). The closure will have a similar diversion in place, taking motorists from Summercourt towards Quintrell Downs and again down the A3075 to the interchange.

For these closures, local access north and south at Chiverton and via the B3284 at Chybucca will be maintained throughout. The link from the A39 to the north will also be maintained via the B3285. All closures are now focused on surfacing and infrastructure work along the route.

Next week, there will also be overnight closures between Chiverton and Summercourt from Monday, June 10 to Thursday 13 June. This will then be followed by a full weekend closure along the same stretch from Friday, June 14 to Monday, June 17.

While the main part of the A30 dualling project is coming to a finish, National Highways said that remedial works will continue through the year. However, these are not expected to impact anyone using the new dual carriageway.
