A379 reopens eleven hours after serious bike crash near Kingsbridge
A busy A-road in Devon has reopened after it was closed for over 11 hours following a serious bike crash. Police were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the A379 near Kingsbridge around 3.30pm yesterday, Friday, September 13, where a biker sustained serious injuries.
A motorcyclist was rushed to Derriford Hospital with serious injuries after a crash between two cars and a motorbike, Devon and Cornwall Police said. Land and an air ambulance also attended alongside police.
More than 11 hours after the A379 in Aveton Gifford, near Kingsbridge was initially closed due to the crash, it was reported to be reopened.
DevonAlert warned motorists that the road was closed yesterday afternoon following the serious crash. It said: "#Devon The A379 is closed near Ashford due to an ongoing incident. Please avoid the area if possible as delays are likely. JA"
At 4.30pm yesterday, roads and traffic monitoring site, Inrix also said: "A379 in both directions closed, delays of eight hours due to serious accident between B3392 (Modbury) and A381 (Bantham Cross, Churchstow)."
During the early hours of this morning, at 2.39am, DevonAlert confirmed the road had reopened. It said: "Update 02:39 - The road has now reopened. JC".
At the time of the crash, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are at the scene of serious collision at Aveton Gifford near Kingsbridge.
"Officers were called at just before 3.30pm on Friday 13 September following the collision involving two cars and a motorcycle on the A379 by Ashford.
"Ambulance and the air ambulance are on scene. The male motorcyclist has sustained serious injuries. He is being taken to Derriford Hospital. The A379 is currently blocked and closed by police."
