Drivers are facing delays tonight after an overturned lorry blocked a busy London ring road.
The lorry crashed and spilt its load at around 1pm on a sliproad onto the A406 North Circular in Woodford, north east London.
The road was closed eastbound as the overturned lorry was recovered by workers, leaving motorists queuing as they were forced to divert elsewhere.
Traffic was slow for four miles from Waterworks Corner to Fore Street Tunnel, Transport for London said on Twitter as they warned drivers of “severe delays”.
Tailbacks were also reported along Woodford New Road to Chingford Lane.
Witnesses described the scene as they shared photos showing the lorry lying on its side on the slip road.
One witness, Ghene Snowdon, said the driver “walked off shaken but alive” while the Met Police confirmed no one was injured.
Motorists complained of the "severe" traffic as they struggled to get home.
The bad news is the traffic at A406 is severe and I might get home late. But, the other news is I'm working tomorrow. 😞— Daggie 🌸 (@MekuriaDagmawi1) March 7, 2017
A spokeswoman for the Met Police said: "Police were called on Tuesday, 7 March shortly before 1.10pm to the A406 junction with the Waterworks Roundabout to a report of an overturned lorry.
"Officers attended along with the London Fire Brigade. Officers remain on scene to assist."
