A53 falls victim to Storm Bert as another North Staffordshire road closes
Motorists are being warned a key North Staffordshire road has been shut after becoming the latest to fall victim to Storm Bert. A closure has been put in place on the A53 on the outskirts of Leek between the turning for Thorncliffe and the Three Horseshoes.
Back towards Endon and motorists have also been reporting patches of flooding on Leek Road. It's not the first time that stretch of Buxton Road has fallen victim to the bad weather.
StokeonTrentLive reported back in October last year how a patch near the Severn Trent Water base was closed off and left under water following a heavy downfall. Today and drivers are reporting that police are on the scene and 'turning drivers back'.

It represents another issue today on the A53 where a stretch towards the Roaches had to be closed this morning following heavy snowfall. It's been estimated that in parts of the Moorlands around 12cm of snow had accumulated.
However as the morning wore on temperatures rose to a backdrop of heavy rain and wind which has submerged various routes. Elsewhere around Leek and motorists have reported standing water on Ashbourne Road in Lowe Hill and Bradnop.
Towards the Potteries and the A34 between Parkhouse Industrial Estate and the A500 junction was shut on the northbound due to flooding.
