Aaron Rodgers’ years-long estrangement from his family had “nothing to do with” ex Olivia Munn, according to a new book about the football star.

Ian O'Connor’s Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers, which includes interviews with Rodgers, 40, and his family, makes clear that he did not consider his then-girlfriend of three years to blame for the damaged relationship with his parents and brothers.

Calling his family issues “deep-rooted,” per O’Connor, the quarterback said Munn, 44, "has nothing to do with all the years” of prior estrangement — despite his parents considering her its primary cause.

A source close to Munn tells PEOPLE exclusively, "It’s been almost a decade of these ridiculous rumors, and I know she really appreciates Aaron finally shutting it down.”

Rodgers’ brother, Jordan, revealed in 2016 while appearing as a contestant on The Bachelorette that the 2010 Super Bowl champ had severed ties with family members. In an interview with The New York Times, their father, Ed, confirmed the damaged relationship with his middle son.

In 2018, a year after splitting from Rodgers, Munn appeared on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show, Andy Cohen Live, to clarify that he had not spoken to several family members for “months before we started dating” in 2014, and that she supported mending their rifts.

“I just think it’s really important to try to mend things in a family, and I encouraged that,” The Newsroom star said at the time, adding his family “started coming out my first year when I was in Green Bay in 2014," after she urged Rodgers to reconnect with them by phone.

O’Connor’s book also reveals that given the “devout religious views” of the athlete’s mother, Darla, she “disapproved of premarital sex and was opposed to her middle child sharing a hotel room with his girlfriend” during NFL games. She allegedly “did not appreciate” that Munn “publicly talked about her sex life with Aaron.”

Rodgers has since dated racing driver Danica Patrick and actress Shailene Woodley. Munn and John Mulaney began dating in 2021 and were married this July. They welcomed their son, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney, in 2021.
