Earlier this week it was announced that Harry Reid, who plays Ben Mitchell in EastEnders, was bowing out of the BBC One soap, with show bosses confirming that the 25-year-old actor will be written out following an explosive storyline.
An insider told The Sun: “Fans of Ben and the Mitchell family will be shocked to see his departure from the soap.
“Harry has played the role for three years and done Ben justice – but it’s his time to move on from the programme.
“His contract has expired and he’s now free to work on other projects.”
Now EastEnders’ alumni Aaron Sidwell has sparked speculation that Ben might actually be killed off, seemingly giving away a huge spoiler in an Instagram post.
Sharing a photo of Harry, Aaron wrote: “This stylish mother f**ker is gonna smash it. Big future ahead my brother. #GayBen #Family #IanBealeIsABadLuckCharm”.
Aaron played Steven Beale in the soap until last month, when his character – who was Ian Beale’s son – was killed off in a horrifying fire.
With Ben being Ian Beale’s half-brother, Aaron’s inclusion of the hashtag: ‘Ian Beale is a bad luck charm’ sent fans into a frenzy, with the star’s followers asking if this meant that the much-loved bad boy will also be meeting his end in the coming months.
One wrote: “Erm, please tell me that he doesn’t die???”
Another added: “Nooooo they can’t kill off Ben. I’ll have to stop watching.”
This isn’t the first time that Aaron has seemingly given away EastEnders’ secrets on his Instagram page, previously landing the young cast in hot water when he accidentally confirmed that one of them would be leaving the show after a ‘Sorry You’re Leaving’ banner was spotted in the background of one of his photos from a cast party.
It turns out that it was actually Aaron’s party, with Steven’s departure from the soap being confirmed soon after.
Meanwhile, Harry recently admitted that he’d be “deeply upset” if Ben Mitchell was written out of the soap, saying: “How would anyone feel if they lost their job?
“I don’t think anyone is pleased to go.”
