Abbi Jacobson reveals her 5 dream Broad City guest-stars

After three exceptional seasons ‘Broad City’ has got to a point where it could include any guest-star that it wanted.

So far the likes of Fred Armisen, Janeane Garofalo, Jason Mantzoukas, Amy Poehler, Seth Rogen, Susie Essman, Alia Shawkat, Kelly Ripa, Melissa Leo, Mara Wilson, Seth Green, Adam Levine, and a certain Hilary Clinton are just some of the lucky individuals have joined in the fun with Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer over the last three years.

During an interview with the New York Times over the weekend Abbi Jacobson opened up about which guest-stars she’d love to see in ‘Broad City’. And it turned out to be quite a diverse bunch of folks, too. Here’s a rundown:

5) Bette Midler

A national treasure who has shone in theatre, music, and film, Bette Midler has sold over 35 million records, won a Golden Globe For Best Actress thanks to her performance in ‘The Rose’, and has also picked up 3 Grammys, 3 Emmys, and a special Tony Award, too. She’s also guest-starred in ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Seinfeld’, but her potential appearance in ‘Broad City’ would bring her to a whole new audience.

Potential Role: Herself. We can only imagine that both Ilana and Abbi would be huge fans of her work and all round wonderfulness.

4) Philip Baker Hall

Another ‘Seinfeld’ veteran, who guest starred as Lieutenant Bookman in the hit sitcom, Philip Baker Hall is one of the most underrated character actors in Hollywood. Most notably Philip Baker Hall has worked with Paul Thomas Anderson on the likes of ‘Hard Eight’, ‘Boogie Nights’, and ‘Magnolia’, while he also made a memorable appearance in ‘Curb You Enthusiasm’, too. Basically he’s a comedy stalwart that can find the funny in any situation, especially when he’s being mad and grouchy.

Potential Role: Would be perfect as Ilana’s grandfather, who she repeatedly gets into arguments with.

3) Louis CK

Probably the most popular comedian working in the world today, Louis CK has not only released a number of side-splitting comedy specials but he’s also redefined the scope of television with his show ‘Louie’, too. So it’s not really any surprise that Jacobson has her sights set on the mirth-maker, as his presence would instantly make any show better, especially since he’s such a generous and thought-provoking actor and comedian.

Potential Role: Could picture Louis CK as Ilana’s pushover landlord that struggles to get the rent from her.

2) Nicki Minaj

A musical and pop culture sensation, Minaj made her name with three stellar albums between 2010 and 2014, but since then she has moved onto acting, appearing in the likes of ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’, ‘The Other Women’, and ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’, receiving rave reviews in the latter despite her scant screen time. Minaj is beautiful, feisty, as well as witty and adaptable without it ever affecting her likability or persona.

Potential Role: Herself so that Abbi and Ilana can get a glimpse into her lavish lifestyle, or, better yet, an old school friend of Ilana’s that Abbi immediately gets jealous of.

1) Frances McDormand

The Oscar winning star of ‘Fargo’ is Abbi Jacobson’s number one pick as her dream guest-star on ‘Broad City’, and just one look at her CV proves why. She’s picked up an Oscar for ‘Fargo’, a Tony for ‘Good People’, an Emmy for ‘Olive Kitteridge’, but is boundlessly funny and emotional with her scene-stealing performances, too.

Potential Role: Abbi’s mother. It just has to be. McDormand would be able to provide an intensity that would explain Abbi’s own nerves, or be just as self-conscious and overly analytical as the loveable muffin, too. Either way, she’d be able to give us a new window into the character that no other actress would be able to manage.
