Aberdeen Christmas Parade thrills spectators as city given festive makeover

Aberdeen has become awash with festive spirit, and over the weekend thousands ventured to Union Street to watch the annual Christmas Parade.

The Christmas lights were switched on, the festive village on Broad Street is in full swing, and hundreds of Santas ran down the Granite Mile for charity - we must be getting closer to December 25.

It was a fantastic evening for those looking for some Christmas cheer, with the Charlie House Santa Fun Run kicking off Sunday's celebrations.

Hundreds of Santas set off along the Granite Mile, and spectators even got to witness Santas on mopeds before the beginning of the main parade.

Dozens of organisations and performers took part this year to put on a show. The parade made its way along Union Street - following a new route due to the Union Street Central upgrade - before finishing at His Majesty's Theatre.

Spectators also got to see Santa and Rudolph heading along the high street, before proceedings moved on to the Castlegate Christmas tree.

The tree, which is gifted every year from Aberdeen's twin city of Stavanger in Norway, was put in place earlier last week for the big lights switch on.

Among those taking part in the fun run was the Lord Provost Dr David Cameron, with the Deputy Mayor of Stavanger Henrik Halleland also joining the main parade.

He too was on hand to help with the Christmas tree's switch on, and with that, the countdown to Christmas in Aberdeen is well and truly on.
