Pape Habib Gueye reckons Aberdeen can do “something special” in this campaign.

And the striker insisted he has plenty of moves in his locker that can see him dancing at the top of the Premiership scoring charts come the end of the season. Gueye was the Pittodrie hero again as his double saw off Motherwell and kept up their 100 per cent start under Jimmy Thelin. He’s now the league's top scorer with five goals – and with that have come with differing dancing celebrations.

Gueye said: “Yes. I believe in myself (I could finish top). We have a very strong team where everyone helps each other. And this year we can have something special. I feel so happy now as it is amazing I have five goals. I will just keep going as I know that I can get better. I will keep training very hard then when I come on the pitch I try to score goals. It is good.”

Gueye didn’t exactly have the happiest of spells when he first arrived at Aberdeen but now he and the fans can’t wipe the smiles off their faces. It’s six months since the Dons last lost a game and they have now won 10 in a row since Thelin took over. They are all dancing to the same beat.

The Senegalese player said: “All the time I want to make the fans happy. So when I score a goal I dance. I have a lot of dance on my mind and at home I dance a lot. When I score I like to dance.

“Now I’m here I’m trying to do my best and the supporters feel it. Last year I didn’t get playing time but I was training very hard. I went on loan to get playing time and get my rhythm. When I came back I felt comfortable to play on the pitch which is good.

“If you don’t play then you don’t get your rhythm. Once you play you can get that rhythm and be underway. I know my quality and what I can do and that is why I went out on loan. Now I’m back I want to show the supporters what I can do on the pitch.”

Thelin wiped the slate and the former KV Kortrijk frontman has taken his chance. Gueye said: “If you have a manager who believes in you it helps a lot. He came to me and spoke about how I can develop in training and the games.

“No one is perfect but every time that he speaks to me he tells me how I can improve. I didn’t speak to him before I came back from the loan. But when I came back I spoke to him about the situation.

“I’m happy he gave me my chance to show the supporters and everyone what I can do. I keep believing what he believes in me and try to do my best on the pitch.”

The Aberdeen forward went on loan to Kristiansund to work with Amund Skiri, who had been a big influence on his early career at Aalesunds. Gueye said: “If I went to Kristiansund then I would get play time and come back stronger.

“I never doubt myself because I know my qualities. I was with him and working with him a lot even after training so he knew my qualities.

“That’s why when he saw that I didn’t have play time he called me to come play over there. And from there he has helped me a lot and gave me play time so that I can feel comfortable. That’s why I came back, it was good for me.”

Gueye netted the opener, a goal his manager later described as: “pure quality”. He picked up the ball down the left, roasted past Davor Zdravkovski, charged into the box and cracked a shot in off the near post. And his second goal, after the restart, was more of a poacher’s finish.

Shayden Morris cut it back for Nicky Devlin, who saw his shot saved by Aston Oxborough but Gueye knocked in the rebound. The Dons were the better team in the first period because Motherwell had offered very little going forward. But when Stuart Kettlewell rang the changes they looked a lot more dangerous. Tony Watt should have netted with a close-range header but he put it right at Dimitar Mitov.

Well substitute Moses Ebiye made it at a nervy finish when he swept it in at the back post. Liam Gordon had a header in stoppage time but Mitov clawed it away. Aberdeen were given their stiffest test so far but it is another challenge they came through.
