Aberdeen will face Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals as Jimmy Thelin looks to reach his first domestic cup final since becoming Dons boss.

Under the Swede the Reds have been sensational in the League Cup, winning all six of their ties to be among the final four of the competition.

Their latest victory saw Aberdeen coast through the quarter-finals, with goals from Pape Gueye, Kevin Nisbet, Leighton Clarkson and Ester Sokler sending shock League Two side Spartans out of the cup.

Now, after Celtic survived an almighty scare against Falkirk to complete the semi-final lineup, the Dons will face the Hoops at Hampden in November as they look to reach the final for a second consecutive season.

It's a rematch from last season's dramatic Scottish Cup semi-final, which ended 3-3 in extra-time before Peter Leven's men lost out on penalties to the eventual cup winners.

Brendan Rodgers' side were dealt an early blow on Sunday when Ross MacIver fired in the opener, with Bernardo grabbing an equaliser minutes later for the league leaders.

Finn Yeats restored Falkirk's lead before the break, but a quickfire brace from Adam Idah and a double from Nicolas Kuhn made it a much more comfortable result for the Glasgow outfit as they ended the quarters with a 5-2 victory.

Aberdeen narrowly lost out on silverware last term when Rangers came away with a 1-0 win in the final, and Thelin will be eager to end the 10-year wait for silverware at Pittodrie.
