Aberdeen to welcome new Bon Accord Whisky Distillery as plans approved for Torry venue
Aberdeen is set to reclaim its place in Scotland’s whisky heritage with the approval of a planning application for the Bon Accord Distillery on Greyhope Road.
The new distillery will open on the historic Torry site of the former Bon Accord Drinks factory, blending the city's past with an exciting new era of whisky production.
The Bon Accord Distillery will not only produce high-quality single malt Scotch whisky but also serve as a visitor attraction, offering guided tours, tasting sessions and interactive exhibits.

The project aims to showcase Aberdeen’s rich brewing and distilling history and honour the legacy of the Bon Accord name while providing an economic boost to the city.
Currently the only brewery within city bounds belongs to Fierce Beer who are steaming towards their 10th year in business - and Davis Gonnella, Brand director of Bon Accord Distillery, expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
He said: "This is about more than just whisky - it’s about creating a lasting legacy for Aberdeen, supporting local businesses and attracting visitors to the city.
"We want Bon Accord Distillery to be a source of pride for Aberdonians. We’ll have a section of the distillery where local food businesses can come and sample their wares to visiting crowds, showcasing the best in north-east Scotland’s produce, as well as quality whisky made on site."
The distillery has also announced collaborations with Fierce Beer, one of Scotland’s most award-winning breweries, and renowned Master Chef of Great Britain and Grampian Chef of the Year 2013 John Chomba, who will serve as Managing Director.
He commented: "We are delighted to be involved in the new distillery, it will be a fantastic addition to the food and drink scene in Aberdeen.
"We've worked with Davis and the team over the last few years and it's great to be involved with the project, where we can contribute our experience from building up Fierce Beer, to help make this a success."
The distillery is set to incorporate renewable energy, efficient water wastage, and eco-friendly waste management practices.
With construction set to begin this summer, whisky lovers and locals alike can look forward to a new landmark on Aberdeen’s waterfront. As the first casks are laid down, the Bon Accord Distillery promises to put Aberdeen firmly back on the whisky map, and the economic impact of the distillery is expected to be significant.
In addition to creating jobs during the construction phase, the distillery says it will provide long-term employment opportunities once operational. The visitor centre, gift shop, and other facilities are also intended to benefit local businesses and boost tourism in the area.
"Aberdeen has always been a city of innovation and resilience," Davis added. "With Bon Accord Distillery beginning building work in summer of this year, we hope to capture that spirit and share it with the world, one dram at a time.
"We are delighted to bring the Bon Accord name back to life in a way that reflects both Aberdeen’s storied past and its promising future.
"This project is about more than just whisky. It’s about creating a lasting legacy for the city, providing jobs, and contributing to the local economy."
