Bosses at an Aberdeen cafe have announced they will not be renewing their contract at Greyhope Bay and leaving the venue.

Mount moved into the Torry Battery facility and became a popular destination for those seeking cake and coffee while looking out to sea and spotting pods of dolphins.

The move into Greyhope Bay was only completed back in November 2023, but 12 months on Mount say they have made the "difficult" decision to put their efforts back into their city centre venue on Upperkirkgate.

Bosses said the decision had not been taken lightly and that while they had loved their time at Torry Battery it "felt right" to move on.

Owners Greyhope Bay have confirmed they will take over the sight and have applied for funding to keep the space running for two to three days a week until March.

In an update on their Instagram page, Mount posted: "We have some news to share.

To our incredible customers and friend. After a lot of thought and reflection, we’ve decided not to renew our contract at Greyhope Bay. We have not made this decision lightly but it’s a decision that feels right.

"We’ve learnt a lot over the past year but a very important lesson that we’ve learnt is that happiness doesn’t always come from having “more” or expanding as fast as possible—for us it comes from staying connected to what matters the most and working towards our own goals both personally and professionally.

"Mount in the city is where this journey began. It’s where we’ve made lifelong connections, shared countless memories, and grown close with all of you.

"By focusing on this one space, we are returning to the heart of what we truly love: serving great food, coffee, and a sense of community, without the pressures that come with having “bigger” or “more.

"As we hand back the reins of the cafe, we want to express our heartfelt thank you for the incredible journey we’ve shared over the past year with the Greyhope team and customers.

"It’s been a privilege to work alongside such a passionate team, and we’re truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an inspiring mission.

"We wish Greyhope Bay all the luck and love in the world as you continue to bring your vision to life. Here’s to you guys creating even more connections, memories, and moments that matter for the community and coast line and growing Greyhope Bay throughout your phase 2 project. We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.

"We’re incredibly grateful for the support you’ve shown both locations, and we hope you’ll continue to visit us at Mount as we pour our energy into making it even more exciting and special.

"Thank you for being part of our story. Here’s to savouring each moment and finding happiness in what we’ve built together."
