A weather warning for snow and ice hitting parts of Aberdeenshire comes into effect today.

The yellow warning will hit areas such as Peterhead, Fraserburgh and Banff and is set to begin at 4pm today, continuing into Monday morning before coming to a close at 11am on November 18.

Residents in affected areas have been urged to brace for "ice and some snow leading to slippery surfaces and difficult travel conditions" by the Met Office.

Meanwhile, the rest of the north-east will also experience a sudden cold snap as temperatures plummet as low as -3 degrees in Braemar. In Aberdeen, temperatures will dip to around 0 degrees.

The Met Office warning reads: "During Sunday, showers will turn increasingly wintry through the day with hail, sleet and some snow. Little snow is likely to settle at low levels by day, but through the evening and overnight, 1 to 3 cm may accumulate in some places, whilst 5 to 10 cm is possible on high ground above 300 metres by Monday morning.

"Meanwhile, as temperatures fall overnight, ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces."
