A Holmfirth restaurant has been named the best in town less than a year after it opened.

Finlay's in Woodhead Road, Holmfirth, has reached the top spot on TripAdvisor, with 110 reviews, more than 100 of which are five stars.

Restaurant operations manager James Hinchliffe said he and his colleagues were very proud to have reached top spot with so many happy customers.

He said many in the hospitality sector were finding it 'very hard to survive' at the moment and so all support was greatly appreciated.

James told YorkshireLive: "We are obviously very proud of being number one and knocking a well established business off their TripAdvisor perch, especially in the time we did it. We are extremely grateful to our customers for their feedback and comments, and for their continued support."

Asked about the restaurant's success, he added: "I believe that it is a mix of our ever-changing menu using locally sourced produce and a mix of fresh fish and seafood, and local meat products, that our customers come for.

"We opened up as a predominantly fish based restaurant but as time has gone on we have added more meat to the menu and have now renamed ourselves, Finlay's Land & Sea."

James praised staff and said: "We also have an amazing and attentive service provided by all the staff, led by general manager Melissa Perry. The head chef is Chris Cullen."

A recent review of Finaly's from Diane, posted on TripAdvisor, said: "Best roast beef I've had for a long time, it simple melted in your mouth. From starters to dessert the food was delicious. The service was impeccable and nothing was too much trouble for the serving staff. Lovely atmosphere and reasonable price for the quality of food."

Steve Kemp posted: "Absolutely brilliant restaurant. The food was delicious the service was outstanding, very very pleasant and helpful staff. Definitely will visit again."
