The Acolyte's Lee Jung-jae "quite surprised" by show's cancellation
The Acolyte spoilers follow.
The Acolyte star Lee Jung-jae has revealed his surprise at the show being cancelled, sharing that he was disappointed to hear the decision.
The Star Wars series, which aired on Disney+, followed Lee's Jedi Master Sol, who embarked on a quest with his former Padawan Osha (Amandla Stenberg) to solve a series of crimes.
Despite receiving generally positive reviews, it was announced earlier this week (August 20) that the show had not been renewed for a second season, a move that left Lee - whose character died in the finale - surprised.

"As you know, my character had died already in the first season," he told Entertainment Weekly. “So I wouldn't have appeared in the second season if there was one anyway. But personally speaking, I really loved Leslye's [Headland] writing. I thought that she was a great writer and director.
"[She] was very talented in storytelling, as well as creating characters and creating meaningful structures within the story. So I was actually personally really looking forward to watching a season two with her at the helm."
He added that when he heard the cancellation news, he was "quite surprised personally as well".
Despite the show apparently now being over, Lee - who shot to international fame for his role in Squid Game - did express his hope of reprising his role in some capacity, outlining his wishes for a revival of The Acolyte.

"Honestly, I am hoping that maybe there could be changes in the future," he said. "Because you never know what's going to happen. So on a personal level, I really hope we could get to see further stories of Leslye's second season."
The Acolyte set a record for Disney+ upon its premiere, with its first two episodes accruing 11.1 million viewers across the first five days of release. Viewing figures subsequently waned, however, with the cancellation announced soon afterwards.
