The Great Easton Brook in Rutland has reached a dangerously high level, putting homes in four streets in the village at risk. The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Warning, urging people to "act now", if they live in the affected area.

The warning area covers properties near the river on Brook Lane, Barnsdale, Banbury Lane, and Caldecott Road in Great Easton, which is to the south of Uppingham in the Welland Valley. After heavy rain, the brook running through the village has risen.

The warning said: "Heavy rain has fallen in the Great Easton catchment causing the Great Easton Brook to rise. Levels will remain high for several days.

"Low lying areas near to the Easton Brook are already flooded and we expect properties to be affected. Properties on Banbury Lane in Great Easton are expected to be affected first.

"Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings. Please avoid contact with flood water.

"Our staff are out in the area to check the flood defences, clear blockages, and assist the emergency services and council. We will be closely monitoring the situation."

The Environment Agency has less severe Flood Alerts in place elsewhere, including one covering Loughborough and villages on the River Soar in the north of the county. Separate alerts are in place for the River Swift in Lutterworth and the River Welland in Market Harborough.
