A flood warning is in place in Nottinghamshire tonight (Monday, September 30) - with people urged to "act now". The warning has been issued for the area around a caravan park by the River Maun.

Earlier, the Environment Agency said flooding was possible at the Sherwood Forest Caravan Park near Kings Clipstone earlier, but it has now been upgraded its advice to warn that flooding is expected. It follows rising river levels at the Mansfield The Dykes river gauge.

The warning says flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible on Monday night (September 30). The areas most at risk are said to be Sherwood Forest Caravan Park and properties near Kings Clipstone.

It said: "River levels have risen at the Mansfield The Dykes river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property/roads and farmland is possible this evening, 30/09/24.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until tomorrow (October 1). We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are patrolling watercourses in the area.

"Please move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety and move family, pets and cars to safety.

The agency issues three types of flood warning, with a flood alert meaning that flooding is possible and that people should prepare. There are then flood warnings, when flooding is expected, and severe flood warnings, when flooding could cause a risk to life and significant disruption to communities.

Flood warnings are usually issued 30 minutes to two hours before flooding, with people told to "act now". The warning says those in affected areas should move loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place, move to higher ground and turn off the gas, electricity and water in their home if it’s safe to do so.
