Activists Occupy Roof of Adelaide Slaughterhouse Accused of Animal Abuse

Protesters affiliated with animal activism group Aussie Farms occupied the roof of Strathalbyn Abbatoir in South Australia on September 21, claiming the business was guilty of animal abuse.

Protesters highlighted a website which shows graphic and distressing content of livestock being tasered and drowned. The footage was released by animal rights group Animal Liberation in August; they claim the footage was taken by hidden cameras inside Strathalbyn Abbatoir.

Despite the graphic nature of the footage, RSPCA visits found the procedures and practice at the slaughterhouse adhered to the relevant codes and legislation related to animal slaughter, according to The Sunday Mail and Aussie Farms’ website.

Activists said they demanded a tour of the facility with their cameras but were denied. This video shows at least 20 people on the roof of the facility, and multiple police vehicles parked below.
