Activists Open Ticket Barriers at Barcelona Station in Protest Over Rail Investment

A group of activists taped open ticket barriers at Placa de Catalunya train station in Barcelona on June 2, in protest over a lack of investment in the rail network, according to local reports.

This footage, filmed by David Melero, shows dozens of protesters wrapping the station’s gates in packing tape, inviting commuters to pass through without paying for a ticket.

The group who organised the protest, Batec Collective, posted similar footage. “We have opened the second largest station in Catalonia,” they Tweeted.

In response, Renfe, Spain’s state-owned railway company, said: “If someone sneaks in, they are committing a fraud against all Catalans.” Credit: David Melero via Storyful
