Activists Scale Melbourne's Channel 7 Building to Protest Immigration Laws

Five activists scaled the Channel 7 building in Melbourne to protest federal immigration policy, holding up a sign saying “Deportation = Death” on Friday, June 23.

The demonstrators were calling on the government to repeal the Border Force Act and “evacuate every last person from Manus Island and Nauru,” one of them said in footage published at 9 am.

“We have a humanitarian crisis on our hands; it is being controlled by the Australian government,” the unnamed activist said.

The protest was staged by the Whistleblowers, Activists and Citizens Alliance on the roof of Channel 7 so that the banner could be read by those working in the neighbouring Border Force headquarters.

“We want all the workers to look outside the window and see this banner,” the activist said.

Channel 7 reported that a second protest was held at ground level outside the Border Force building, on the Harbour Esplanade in Docklands. Credit: Facebook/Whistleblowers via Storyful, Activists and Citizens Alliance
