These are the activities that make you 'posh', according to Brits

Britain’s poshest pursuits have been revealed, with trips to the opera and the ballet topping the list of high-class activities.

According to the new YouGov research, three quarters (76 per cent) of Brits consider a trip to the opera to be ‘posh’, placing it at the top of the list.

Ballet was next (72 per cent) followed by a visit to an art exhibition (50 per cent) or a spa (38 per cent).

Going to the theatre is only considered to be posh by 36 per cent of people, while museum and casino outings were level pegging in the poshness stakes, at 18 per cent apiece.

At the other end of the spectrum was a trip to the bingo or a meal at the pub. 93 per cent of people agreed that these are not posh pursuits.

There was an age-group split for what people consider to be posh, with younger participants more likely to regard the activities on the list as being high class.

The biggest difference was recorded in people’s view of going to the theatre. Almost two thirds of 18-24 year olds think this is a posh activity, compared to only a fifth of those aged 65 or over.

And there was a generational split when it came to art exhibitions. 18-24-year-olds were 30 per cent more likely to this they are posh compared to the over 65s.
