Acton fire: Huge blaze breaks out at block of flats in west London

A huge blaze has broken out at a block of flats in west London.

Video shows flames and smoke billowing from the six-storey block in Acton.

Six fire engines and 40 firefighters were called to the fire on Bromyard Avenue shortly before midday on Tuesday.

London Fire Brigade said a five-roomed flat on the fifth floor was alight.

The department took 28 calls about the fire.

One witness posted footage that appeared to show a woman standing on the rooftop with the fire just metres away.

They said: "Crazy fire in Bromyard Avenue flats in #Acton. (Neighbour got out OK via balcony). @LondonFire​ extinguished it from the inside quickly and super professionally."

In another tweet they wrote: "The neighbour climbed the balcony, went towards the left on the outside of the bannister, and climbed back to safety into another apartment. It was scary for us watching, can't imagine for her..."

London Fire Brigade said one woman left the flat that was alight and another 29 people left the building before the fire crews arrived.

They said there were no reports of any injuries.

London Ambulance Service said one person was assessed at the scene but was not taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
