Actress Leah Remini Claims Scientologists Tried To Recruit Jennifer Lopez At Tom Cruise’s Wedding

So the Scientologists – funny old bunch really, aren’t they? For such an apparently well-meaning organisation they sure do get A LOT of flack from former members, some of which now include minor celebrities.

Actress Leah Remini, best known for her role in ‘The King Of Queens’, has publically slammed the religious organisation, and claims that they used her to try and recruit high-profile stars like Jennifer Lopez to the church.

Leah claims that the church basically made her invite her old pal Jennifer to 'Mr Scientology’ Tom Cruise’s wedding to Katie Holmes back in 2006 – but made them travel in seperate cars and sit apart from each other during the service.

Sounds a tad fishy, don’t you think?

Speaking to US show 20/20, Leah said: “The Church was really the one who invited them. On Tom’s behalf.”

“They were always trying to extract me. I could only assume because they wanted to make Jennifer a Scientologist and maybe I was barring that road for them.”

Leah claims that the 'I Luh Ya Papi’ singer eventually helped her leave the church in 2013, which she details in her new book: 'Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology’.

Katie Holmes has also been dragged into this hot Hollywood mess, after it emerged that the Dawson’s Creek actress complained to the church about Leah, who was sent away to be 'reprogrammed’ as a result.

Katie allegedly wrote: ‘I was dismayed at the behavior of Leah Remini during the events leading up to our wedding… At the wedding, the behavior as a guest, a friend… was very upsetting.’

Anyway, it now seems that Katie feels a bit guilty about the whole thing – she told the programmed that “I regret having upset Leah in the past and wish her only the best in the future.”

Crikey – who’d be a celebrity, eh?
