Adam Sandler reunites with Uncut Gems director for new Netflix special

Adam Sandler is set to reunite with Uncut Gems co-director Josh Safdie for a new Netflix comedy special.

The pair famously worked together on the acclaimed 2019 crime thriller alongside Josh's brother Benny.

It has now been revealed that Josh will direct a new special for Sandler, which comes after his 2018 stand-up special 100% Fresh.

Sandler has long collaborated with Netflix, with his next project set to be sci-fi movie Spaceman – also starring Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano.

The film follows an astronaut who tries to fix his marriage with the help of a mysterious creature, and is based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař.

"Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Sandler), realises that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth," the synopsis reads.

"Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late."

The movie is also set to star Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin and Isabella Rossellini, and is directed by Chernobyl's Johan Renck with a screenplay by Colby Day.

Sandler is also lining up a new Netflix project with George Clooney, which is set to be directed by Barbie co-writer Noah Baumbach, with Emily Mortimer also co-writing.

The Adam Sandler comedy special is set to stream on Netflix, with a release date yet to be confirmed. Uncut Gems is streaming now on Netflix.
