Adele made her television comeback over the weekend with a joke about her recent weight loss.

The multi-award winning artist stunned fans in May this year when she debuted a slimmer frame during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

Hosting Saturday Night Live in the US on Saturday (October 24), the 'Hello' singer made her long-awaited return to screens – where she addressed her weight loss in her opening monologue.

Jokingly, she blamed it on COVID-19.

"I know I look really, really different since you last saw me," she said.

"But actually, because of all the COVID restrictions... I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me.

"And this is the half I chose."

The singer dropped her last album all the way back in 2015 and was expected to release her new album in September, before her manager confirmed that date had been pushed back when speaking in June.

In August, Adele herself gave an update – and it wasn't very promising.

Asked by a fan on Instagram about the release date of her new album, she replied: "I honestly have no idea."

Still, perhaps her return to the screen means she's got something exciting to announce soon.
