Adele's Album Will Not Be On Streaming Sites

Adele's highly-anticipated new album will not be available on the streaming services Spotify and Apple Music, it has been confirmed.

The singer's XL Recording label is not making 25 available on streaming platforms when it is released today.

It is unclear if the album will appear on Spotify or Apple Music in the future.

The move means listeners will have to download the album, or buy it in the shops, driving up sales.

The album is predicted to sell more than one million copies in its first week.

The first single from the record, Hello, broke download and viewing records when it was released last month.

Spotify said: "We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify.

"We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy 25 on Spotify alongside 19 and 21 very soon."

Apple said it was "thrilled" to offer the album on iTunes.

"Her soulful new single, 'Hello,' is available to stream on Apple Music along with her entire catalogue and her revealing interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1," the company said in a statement.

Tyler Goldman, chief executive, North America, of streaming company Deezer, also said it would not have the album.

"She's benefitting from paid subscriptions, but she's using this as an opportunity to try and sell more CDs or downloads," he said.

"If all artists did this, we wouldn't have the growth in subscriptions we have."

Adele's representatives declined to comment.

Her decision follows a similar move by Taylor Swift over her album 1989 last year.

Swift made the decision after saying artists should value their music and not offer it for free.

1989 became the biggest selling album in the world in 2014, with estimated sales of more than 8.5 million.

Swift agreed to put the album on Apple Music in July, days after it agreed to pay artists during a free trial of its new music streaming service.
