Adele's Easy On Me breaks streaming record with 24 million listens in one week

Adele's new single Easy On Me has reached the top of the UK singles chart and broken streaming records after registering 24 million listens in one week.

The singer beat Ariana Grande's 2019 record of 16.9 million streams in a week for the song 7 Rings.

Adele's single also clocked up 217,300 chart sales, the highest since Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You in January 2017.

Easy On Me's weekly digital download sales hit 23,500 - the biggest so far in 2021.

The song's success boosted the popularity of two of Adele's previous releases, When We Were Young and Someone Like You, which re-entered at 25th and 34th place respectively.

Adele's new album is due out on 19 November and is titled 30.

When she announced the release earlier this month, she said she was "certainly nowhere near where I'd hoped I would be when I first started writing it nearly three years ago".

"It was my ride or die throughout the most turbulent period in my life," she said.

The 33-year-old began working on it around the time of her split from her husband, and her new music features lyrics telling how she explained the break-up to their son Angelo, now nine.

Meanwhile, last week's chart-toppers Sir Elton John and Dua Lipa, dropped down to second place with their single Cold Heart.

Ed Sheeran's Shivers was third, Love Nwantiti by CKay came fourth, and My Universe by Coldplay and BTS ranked fifth.

The top spot of the album chart was held by Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres, which has become the fastest-selling album of 2021 so far.

The record had 101,000 chart sales in its opening week and is the band's ninth consecutive album to reach number one.

Second place is the super deluxe edition of The Beatles' last album Let It Be, followed by Adele's 25 in third, Daniel O'Donnell's 60 in fourth, and Joy Crookes's Skin in fifth.
