Many pub goers would describe a brilliant pub as full of people, a buzzing atmosphere, sports TVs, music and more. This pub on the Essex border has been named as the best cider pub in greater London of the year for the past four years - but has a very different vibe to the busy pubs many Essex residents would usually flock to.

The Hop Inn in Hornchurch is a micropub, providing a "welcoming, relaxed and friendly service", unlike some other busy drinking establishments in our local area. So - what makes this unique pub so brilliant?

Opened by a couple of hospitality veterans in December 2019, the Hop Inn is a spot where you can enjoy fresh ale, real cider, craft beer, gin, whisky and wine. Oddly enough, this venue has no lager, no slot machines, TV’s or beeping and ringing mobiles.

Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has awarded the Hop Inn for both its wide range of drinks and calm environment. It seems to be the perfect place to relax in a child-free environment.

The pub asks that phones go on silent, and they have sound-absorbing ceiling panels to make for a quieter environment. Hop Inn is the perfect spot for a peaceful drink where the staff have a passion for the drinks on sale.

It is very popular, boasting hundreds of 5-star reviews. One reviewer said: "A leading example of a micro pub, exceptionally attentive service and very knowledgeable staff.

"A truly diverse selection of beer and cider available. Clean glassware, appropriate serving temperatures and beers were in good condition at time of visit. Friendly locals and great conversation. A must-visit if you find yourself in this part of the world."
