Aerial Footage Captures Migrating Elephant Herd Climbing Hillside in China's Yunnan Province
A herd of elephants migrating through China’s southwestern Yunnan province was spotted climbing a hillside near Yuxi City on June 20.
The Asian elephants moved through an area in the Dalongtan Township between 6 pm on Saturday and 6 pm on Sunday, according to authorities in Yunnan monitoring their migration.
Authorities said a male elephant that strayed 15 days ago was about 24 km away from the herd on Sunday.
The Asian elephants, originally from a nature reserve in the Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, are part of a population of 300 found in the country, according to local news reports.
The elephants were previously seen sleeping in a video posted by the Yunnan Forest Fire Brigade on June 14. Credit: Yunnan Provincial Headquarters, Safety and Precaution of Asian Elephants Moving North via Storyful
