Aerial Footage Shows 'Lava Delta' on La Palma Coast

Lava from the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma is creating a new headland as it pours into the Atlantic, footage published on October 4 shows.

The Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (Involcan) reported a “clear increase” in effusive activity on October 3, as the cone of the volcano partially collapsed, resulting in thicker lava flow.

The Spanish National Research Council, CSIC, said the “lava delta” extended over 500 meters. Credit: ICMAN-CSIC via Storyful
