From Town & Country

A colourfield of mottled aquamarine; an undulating blue line cutting through a sandy plane: sun-soaked colours and forms pervade the aerial pool photography of Brad Walls, also known as Bradcanvas.

Innovative in his use of drone technology to capture swimming pools from above, Walls defamiliarises classic summer views from his abstracting, flattening vantage point. Shallow poolside steps transform into a geometric pattern, shady cabanas a symmetrical grid. Playful and warm in his approach, Walls showcases the unusual shapes and markings that quietly decorate the holiday landscape.

Sorbet tones of salmon pink, translucent blue and biscuit brown suffuse the series: the palette practically conjures up a tall iced drink. Born of a nostalgic desire to document his summer holidays, the negative spaces and eccentric angles of Walls’ resort photography seem to be bathed in childhood memories.
