Aston Villa reportedly retain an interest in Matteo Guendouzi ahead of the summer transfer window.

The France international was heavily linked with Villa in January 2023 after Unai Emery was appointed head coach at Villa. Guendouzi remained at Marseille for the remainder of the 2022/23 season, but left for Lazio on an initial loan deal last summer.

He then joined Lazio permanently for €13m plus another €5m in bonuses and a 10 per cent sell-on fee after certain clauses were met last season. The 25-year-old made a total of 46 appearances for Lazio across all competitions last term, featuring in 33 Serie A matches and all eight of the Italian club's Champions League games.

However, Corriere dello Sport claim that Guendouzi wants to leave Lazio because of a soured relationship with the new manager Igor Tudor and the player's agent has told the newspaper that Emery wants to reunite with him as Villa are 'pushing' to find an agreement.

Tudor has previously managed Marseille for Guendouzi's final season at the French club and was appointed manager of Lazio in March following the resignation of Maurizio Sarri. Reports in Italy claim that Lazio president Claudio Lotito is eager to cash in on Guendouzi to allow Tudor's transfer plans to come to life.

Emery signed Guendouzi for Arsenal back in 2018 and he made 66 appearances in all competitions under the Spaniard.
