After Daisy (Chloe Bennet) helped most of the team through the Framework's back door, she was forced to leave Mack behind after he chose to stay with his digital daughter... so what does that mean for the future of the character?

"He knows that his daughter is now alive, and he'd rather stay there and spend the time he has with her than to go back," executive producer Jeffrey Bell told EW. "Just think if you could choose to live a beautiful lie versus a painful reality, which do you choose?"

Bell noted that this means if Mack decides to stay in the Framework, he would "go off" with it. "That's why Yo-Yo will take desperate measures to try and bring him back," added executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen.

And Mack and Yo-Yo's (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) relationship isn't the only thing that could be changed by the Framework.

"There are always complications. Coming out of the Framework, the emotional toll is even more intense," teased Tancharoen of the possibility that Coulson and Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) could resume their Framework relationship.

"We can't really say, but we don't really know," added executive producer Jed Whedon. "We don't even know what's going to happen in season 5. Just know that if you see a season 5, it'll be by the seat of our pants."

Agents of SHIELD airs on ABC in the US and E4 in the UK.
