It's all change on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD as a key character has been added to the main cast for season six.

Jeff Ward, who plays Deke Shaw, is the one getting a promotion – after heavily recurring as the character in the previous series.

We last saw the plucky scavenger Shaw, grandson of Jemma and Fitz, during the season five finale. He'd just decided to take off and travel the globe – but is now set for more screen time in the future.

Could this mean he's changed his mind and is staying put instead? Or will season six see Deke do battle amid the world's greatest tourist attractions? We definitely wouldn't mind a Marvel action scene with the pyramids as a backdrop…

The cast announcement was made during an interview with EW at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 this weekend (July 19-22).

The news comes after the show's official Twitter account confirmed fan favourite Clark Gregg would be coming back for season six.

However, it won't necessarily be as Agent Coulson. Instead, Gregg will actually be behind the camera directing the season six premiere of Agents of SHIELD, which will be titled 'Missing Pieces'. Whether he appears on-camera is still unknown.

Agent Coulson's fate was left mysterious in the season five finale, but it appeared he'd be living out his final days in Tahiti with May (Ming-Na Wen) after blasting General Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) into space.

Could Coulson buddy up with Deke for a Marvel worldwide tour? You'll just have to wait and see…

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will premiere on E4 (in the UK) in summer 2019
