Marvel's Agents of SHIELD season 6 premiered in the US yesterday (May 10) and it featured a touching tribute to the late Stan Lee.

We all know who Stan was and what he brought to the world, and his importance can never be understated in the hearts of comic book fans. So now, after almost six months following his tragic passing, the Marvel maestro's loss is still being felt.

Following the opening episode's credits, an In Memorium card was placed on screen.

Elsewhere, SHIELD actress Ming-Na Wen has revealed that the series should now be treated as a separate entity to the Marvel Cinematic Universe – even if it occasionally features characters from the big screen.

"So, the Snap hasn't happened yet," the actress noted, referencing Thanos' apocalyptic mischief in Avengers: Infinity War.

"I think at this point it's safe to say that we have departed from following the [Marvel] cinematic universe in that sense, and are just telling our own stories and our own situations. All this is happening pre-Snap."

SHIELD's sixth season is apparently going to end on a cliffhanger, too, which is kind of nice of them to tell us?

"We don't have to tie it up with a bow and then go, 'oh there's more' and then undo the bow and go 'ahh'. We can sort of leave things hanging," showrunner Jed Whedon revealed to Digital Spy and other media at WonderCon.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs on ABC in the US and E4 in the UK.
