Marvel's Agents of SHIELD star Clark Gregg and Dirty Dancing's Jennifer Grey are officially ending their marriage.

Gregg filed in a Los Angeles court seeking the dissolution of his marriage of 19 years on August 12, according to NBC's Today. There are no details yet on any settlement or terms of the divorce.

The long-time couple were married on Martha's Vineyard in the US in July 2001, and are parents to 18-year-old daughter Stella, who was born five months after their wedding.

Gregg shared the news on Instagram earlier this month that him and Grey had reached the decision to separate back in January.

"After 19 years together, we separated in january, knowing we'd always be a family who loves, values and cares for each other," it began.

"We recently made the difficult decision to divorce, but we remain close and are deeply grateful for the life we've shared and the wonderful daughter we've raised - jennifer & clark p.s. totally crying as we post this."

Gregg filed his divorce documents in a California courtroom just one day after his Marvel series Agents of SHIELD wrapped up a seven-season run on ABC on Wednesday, August 12 with a ratings high.

Grey has recently confirmed that she will be returning to the world of Dirty Dancing for a Hollywood sequel that will see her executive producing and reprising her role as Frances 'Baby' Houseman.

Announcing the film in August, Lionsgate boss Jon Feltheimer said: "It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise's fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the company's history."
