'Aggressive' thug who stabbed partner so hard knife broke jailed
A Leeds man has been jailed after stabbing his partner so hard the knife broke.
Ingus Galaskis, 37, was found not guilty of attempted murder following a trial at Leeds Crown Court last month, but had already admitted wounding causing grievous bodily harm in relation to the terrifying attack, which saw him stab his partner "again and again."
The court had previously heard how Galaskis had carried out the attack in Baileys Crescent, Seacroft, on September 3 last year, after being asked to leave by the woman.

Prosecutor Angus McDonald told the court in his opening to the trial that the woman had been on holiday to Latvia and had asked Galaskis to leave her home. But upon her return, she found the house a "state" and alcohol on the floor.
He said: "He was aggressive, shouting at her that he did not know she would be returning that day. She told the defendant to rest upstairs and they would discuss things the following morning."
Jurors heard that Galaskis went upstairs, and the woman took the opportunity to call her mother. However, Galaskis returned, still angry and was told again to leave, which he did. The court heard Galaskis went back upstairs but left soon after, carrying his rucksack, only to return 40 minutes later.
Mr McDonald said he went back upstairs and the woman went to sleep on a bed she slept on downstairs due to an injury. He said: "Because she was going to sleep, she put her phone on airplane mode and began to snooze. A short time later, she was awoken by him going into the kitchen in an aggressive manner. She didn't think anything of it... The prosecution say she was lying defenceless and asleep prior to him attacking her with the knife.
"She was lying on the sofa trying to sleep, unaware of what was about to happen to her. The next thing she saw was him inflicting pain to her arm and she immediately realised it was being caused by a knife and that the defendant was stabbing her."
The court heard Galaskis stabbed the woman "again and again" before the knife broke, with some of its blade becoming lodged in her body. Eventually, the court heard, Galaskis realised the knife had broken and went to the kitchen and the woman managed to escape and alert neighbours.
Galaskis was arrested at the address after telling a brave neighbour who had gone to the house: "I'm going to jail."
As he appeared at court on Thursday, November 28, Galaskis was jailed for 10 years.
