Air ambulance called as driver taken ill at wheel before Sutton Coldfield crash
The air ambulance was called to a crash in Sutton Coldfield after a driver was taken ill at the wheel. It happened in Foley Road West in Streetly just after 9am today, Wednesday, November 20.
A car was said to have been involved in a low-speed crash after the driver suffered a medical episode. Passers-by gave CPR to the man.
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two land ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford. Medics gave advanced life support and managed to restart the man’s heart.

He was taken on blue lights to the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick. A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a low-speed road traffic collision on Foley Road West, Streetly, Sutton Coldfield at 9.14am this morning.
“Two ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene. The first ambulance was on scene within two minutes of the 999 call being made.
“They arrived to find bystanders performing CPR on the driver, a man. The crew were told the man had reportedly suffered a medical episode while driving.
“Ambulance staff commenced advanced life support on scene and managed to restart his heart before the man was conveyed on blue lights to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further emergency care.”
