Air ambulance called and one person taken to hospital after 'serious' crash in County Durham

One person has been taken to hospital after a serious crash in County Durham.

Police, fire and paramedics were called to the B1281, Hesleden Road, at around 11.40am on Wednesday to reports of a one vehicle collision. The ambulance service sent multiple crews and the Great North Air Ambulance Service was also in attendance.

One person was transferred to the James Cook Hospital by road. The road was expected to be closed for "some time" following the crash.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 11.43am to a one vehicle road traffic incident on the B1281, Castle Eden. We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic, a duty officer, a clinical team leader and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was transported to James Cook Hospital by road with a doctor on board."

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police were called at 11.40am today to reports of a one vehicle collision on the B1281, Hesleden Road. It is believed one person has been injured and is being treated at the scene."

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision on the B1281 Hesleden Road, Blackhall. The road is currently closed, please avoid the area where possible.”
