An air hostess has revealed a 'game-changing' cleaning tip to ensure safety when checking into a hotel room. Drawing parallels with Liam Neeson's action film Taken, a KLM staff member shared her unique method of ensuring safety in hotels as she travels globally.

In a brief video clip posted on TikTok, the hostess gave her suggestion as to the best way to check if someone else is in your room. According to the Express, she said the best way to confirm no-one is hiding under the bed without looking is to toss a bottle of water beneath it.

The air hostess said: "Throw a bottle under the bed. If it doesn't come out on the other side then there might be someone lurking there, and you should seek a hotel staff member to assist in investigating."

The air hostess is not alone in providing tips on this safety issue. Demi Bonita, from Spain, also offered a clever trick to determine if anyone has entered your hotel room during your absence, which she shared with her 70,000 TikTok followers.

She said: "Put the 'do not disturb card' between the door, so you can notice if someone has been in your room."

Demi, who is also an air hostess, demonstrated the technique of sliding the pass between the door and wall before shutting it. After exiting and re-entering the room, said: "One hour later, no one has been here."

Holidaymakers are also encouraged to inspect three other crucial areas - behind doors, curtains, and large cabinets. Another suggestion relates to the room's phone.

In the era of advanced mobile phones, it might sound absurd, but data roaming can be unreliable or you could face hefty charges for making an international call. The last thing you want is to encounter an emergency in your hotel room only to find out that the landline phone on your bedside table is out of order. It's always advisable to ensure it's working upon your arrival, obtain the number from the reception and give it a test run.
