Air-Quality Health Advisory Issued as Canada Wildfire Smoke Shrouds New York City

New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued an Air Quality Health Advisory as wildfire smoke from Canada drifted into the city on June 6.

Adams tweeted, “If you’re a New Yorker with heart or breathing issues, be careful when you’re outdoors today […] Try to limit your outdoor activities today to the absolute necessities.”

Air quality “plummeted across much of the northeast” as the smoke drifted south, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. “Poor air quality can be hazardous to anyone, and it can aggravate health problems such as asthma, heart disease, and lung disease,” the agency warned.
