Air-Quality Statements Issued as Wildfire Smoke Shrouds Alberta

Air-quality statements were issued for much of Alberta on July 15, as dozens of wildfires burn in British Columbia, Alberta, and the western US, Environment Canada said.

The poor air quality resulted in Edmonton halting all non-essential work, including closing outdoor public pools and fountains, while cemetery workers were sent home for the day, local media reported.

Environment Canada said that a persistent weather pattern will mean that the wildfire smoke’s impact on air quality will remain for the rest of the week.
