Air Tanker Flies Over Three Rivers Fire in New Mexico

Footage shows an air tanker flying over the Three Rivers Fire burning in southern New Mexico on Monday, April 26.

The fire started on Monday morning half a mile north of Three Rivers Campground in Mescalero and had spread near Ski Apache and into the Big Bonito area, officials said. The thick smoke was visible to an NOAA satellite.

The fire had burned at least 12,000 acres as of Wednesday and is “being driven by steep terrain, gusty winds, and dry air,” the NOAA said. It was five percent contained.
