Aircraft Tackle Wildfire on Outskirts of Biarritz, France

A number of aircraft worked to tackle a wildfire that ultimately forced dozens of people to leave their homes in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwest France. The video shows a plane battling the flames near Biarritz on July 30.

The fire was contained by Friday, July 31. The blaze left 16 people with minor smoke-inhalation-related injuries, burned through approximately 407 acres of vegetation, and damaged 11 houses, five of which were rendered uninhabitable, according to reports.

The fire broke out in the late afternoon on Thursday and was fanned by dry wind and fed by the drought and the heat in the region, according to the same reports. Credit: Restaurant Auberge 22 Biarritz via Storyful
